From early childhood Xing loved cars; however, it wasn’t until he purchased his first one that his desire to work alongside them properly ignited.
In 2003 Xing immigrated from China, and later enrolled to study automotive engineering at Unitec, whilst taking up an apprenticeship on Auckland’s North Shore at the same time.
After 5 years, he was ready to move onto something bigger. That was the start of Xing’s journey with Eagers Automotive.
After starting at North Harbour Ford as a warrant of fitness technician, Xing worked hard to gain Ford Specialist Level 2 and Master Technician Level 3 qualifications. His efforts didn’t go unnoticed - among his many accolades as a great technician, in 2016 he won Technician of the Year.
After a decade or so on tools, in 2017, Xing decided that he wanted a change of pace and to progress his automotive career further with a more customer facing role.
Initially he sought to become a service advisor, with the aim of subsequently stepping up to service manager. However, due to a lack of vacancies, opportunities were few and far between. On the other hand, opportunities in sales weren’t so limited, so when there was an opening at a sister dealership John Andrew Ford, Xing decided to give it a go.
At first, Xing was nervous about getting into Sales because he wasn’t sure that it would be a good fit for him. However, to his surprise, he found that it came naturally – “it’s all about creating relationships with people……not the hard sell approach”.
Within 12 months Xing was promoted to Assistant Sales Manager and, since then, he has been a top achiever at John Andrew Ford for multiple years running. He sold 200+ cars in 2020, 300+ cars in 2021; making him one of the top salespeople in the country.
In his spare time Xing enjoys traveling, watching sport, trying different foods, and hanging out with his wife and three children.
In 2020 he was selected to attend the Eagers Automotive Emerging Leaders program and is now in the process of completing our Advanced Leaders program. In the near-term Xing hopes to be able to step up to a sales manager’s role; Dealer Principal being the ultimate goal.
In the meantime, he aims to keep selling high volumes and having fun doing it.
